Working with the Principal Architect at SACON (now DPTI Building management) Thomson Rossi provided a complete Interior Design service for the new Adelaide Youth Court redevelopment.  Our commission included the establishment of specialised room data sheet formats for accurate collation of accommodation needs,  briefing with the judiciary and development of a comprehensive design theme for the interiors.  Key client groups included:

  • Judiciary – Judges,  Magistrates,  Clerks and associated Library;
  • Courtrooms/ Security Desk/ Cells Area/ Court Administration Groups
  • Registrar/Registry Manager/Listings Manager
  • Police Rooms/ Victims of Crime Room
  • Agencies – Family & Community Services/ ALRM – Aboriginal Legal Rights/ Care & Protection
  • Senior/Youth Care Co-ordinators
  • Administration staff/ Family Conferencing and Interview Rooms

The accommodation as planned was principally office-based,  with systems furniture used throughout.  Special requirements were addressed including acoustic performance within Courtrooms, complex  IT and  Audio visual requirements and Safe Cell design, an important aspect of the holding cells.  Our office worked with the Architectural team to provide a unified theme based on simple detailing and bold shapes.  The design reflects the importance of the function of the Courts and reflects the transparency of the judicial process as well as providing a calming environment.
