Our detailed knowledge of geotechnical conditions and structural systems employed in the existing 1970’s two storey buildings informed our planning for the integration of building services within spaces of varying volume and configuration. Contemporary learning environments start with adaptive and agile spaces that support student experience and curriculum advancements, allowing students and staff to remain stimulated, motivated and acquire hard/soft skills through knowledge, communication, collaboration and creative thinking. These new learning environments foster a positive place for students that empower them with the skills to socialise, communicate and gather information. We seamlessly integrated building services into the existing fabric to allow all these functions to occur. We explored services integration via horizontal and vertical connections over two storeys to create a new suite of learning spaces that utilise height as a learning environment. Technology was embedded in the building fabric to support mobile personalised technology with screens, projectors and AV systems connected through site Wi-Fi.
