Commissioned by the Department for Correctional Services to design a new 86 bed High Security Accommodation Facility within an operational Medium/High Security Prison, our design incorporates the extensive use of natural light and ventilation which has contributed to an environment that is both healthy and energy efficient, and from all reports has resulted in a noticeable improvement in prisoner behaviour and wellbeing, as well as an enhanced work place environment for DCS staff. This unique and complex project represents contemporary thinking in cell block design incorporating efficient planning to minimise staff numbers and movements, Safe Cell Design and Environmental Sustainability (ESD). The result is a facility which sets the design benchmark for Australian Correctional high security prisoner accommodation buildings.
