Having successfully completed a new state of the art work environment for BDO in 2011 at 420 King William Street, we were engaged to design and deliver a new work environment at 422. The challenge for the team was to create an environment that provided ‘equity of amenity’ for staff collaborating in the new work space. Devoid of the panoramic 360 degree views of the hills, city and coast afforded by the 420 workplace, we established an ‘Urban Metropolis’ theme, that was inward looking and featured a centralised social hub and work café. The cafe takes its cues from the many ‘hole in the wall’ cafes within the Adelaide CBD, utilising features such exposed building fabric and services to create a gritty urban feel.
